Dear all,

we face the issue that ARIS Express takes very long (around 4 minutes) to start. Latest Java-Version is installed and all settings are as required by Installation Manual.

This is especially a problem, as in the beginning of the starting-process, a ARIS Express screen appears, which unfortunately after 30 sec. disappear again and no further feedback for the user until the application has started is available.

Anyone faces similar problems or even better has a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Achim

Hi,

in your JRE settings, did you have the option "keep temporary internet files on my computer" checked? Is the space of available for the Java cache big enough?

Looks to me Express is downloaded again and again.

By the way: which computer are you using?

Bye,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks for reply.

+ yes, I keep temp files

+ 1000 MB cache space

+ Using HP notebook (EliteBook new, Windows 7, IE 9.x)

Any other cause for the issue?

Bye,

Achim

Hi,

Express, at every start, connects to the community to check whether there is a new version online in order to update.

If your problem forbids that connect, Express gets a timeout.

You could check: if you disconnect your computer from the network: does express starts faster?

Bye,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks!

I tested it without any network connection, but it takes the same time 3:45 min to start ARIS Express.

Issue-cause seems to be another.

How long it takes on your computer to start it? (as a reference)

Any other idea?

Thanks for continous support!

Kind regards

Achim

Hi,

my machine needs 12 seconds. After 4 seconds, the initial splash screen goes away, after 8 seconds the starting screen with the progress bar is shown.

In the java console, last page (advanced), you can switch on the Java console. It can help to see, which part in the starting process causes the delay.

Bye,

Frank

Hi Frank,

thanks for your hints, we tried different possibilities and it seems we have identified the cause for the long delay in starting ARIS Express: MCAfee Virus Scanner scanes the Sun/Java files and this takes very long ...

Of course we will not switch of our virus scanner, but I'm wonder how SAG handels this as - so far I'm informed you are using McAfee as well ...

Thanks in advance for some further help/support!

Kind regards

Achim

Hi,

sorry, no idea. We do not face this problem.

I think, such a virus scanner can be configured, and most likely, that is the case on our side...

Bye,

Frank
