Hi Community,
I have recently been approached with a requirement to migrate an existing ARIS 9 Connect Server installation to a new host. I have looked through all the usual documentation available for the ARIS 9 product, but have not seen anything that might help with this requirement (lost on migrating data, but nothing on migrating a system).
The system is using an MSSQL DB, hosted on a separate server that will not change, with the application installed on a Windows Server VM. Only the application server needs to be migrated, but I have been told that the new server will have to have a different hostname and IP. A straight migration of the full VM is also not possible, so they want to move only the application server.
Essentially, I can make it happen, but only if I can change the hostname of the ARIS Connect server. On basic tomcat installations, this is a relatively straightforward change, but I notice that the in ARIS 9 the hostname specified in the original installation appears in many configuration files in the installed directory structure (mainly aligned with the runnables).
I was hoping that I'd be able to use the ACC to reconfigure the server components to operate with a new hostname, but can't see an obvious way to do this looking at the commands help notes.
Has anyone ever migrated (successfully or not!) and ARIS 9 server from one hostname to another? Is the recommendation to migrate or install a fresh system and migrate the data?
Any observations, considerations or thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks,
Ben
Dear Ben,
I never tested the following but you could to reconfigure loadbalancer via ACC with:
reconfigure loadbalancer_m +HTTPD.servername=”NewServername”
reconfigure loadbalancer_m +zookeeper.application.instance.host=”NewServername”
Then restart your ARIS Agent.
Test it thoroughly since I can't guarantee that all internal communication will be now using the NewServername. Maybe a helpful fallback could be to add an alias for the OldServername pointing to the NewServername in the HOSTS file.
Let me know if that worked.
An officially supported solution you can only get via Software AG support.
Cheers
Rune
Hi Rune,
Many Thanks for the information above. I also raised a ticket with Software AG support as you suggested and they responded with the same instructions.
The system now uses the NewServername for the portal and collaboration functions, including in URL links in system generated email notifications.
I am still in the process of testing, so there may be some gremlins to be discovered over time (which I will report back to Software AG support and update this thread with any further resolution instructions to benefit the community).
In the meantime, fingers crossed!
Regards,
Ben
Dear Colleagues,
I ad also strugling with making the ARIS connect available through open IP address, as a host name. Is it possible?
I tried to reconfigure reconfigure loadbalancer_m +HTTPD.servername=”NewServername”, but It is not allowing to add the IP adress, only the textual desription is accepted. loadbalancer_m +HTTPD.servername=194.40....., is my syntax correct?
