Hi,
what is the functional differences between the Arch and Designer for SAP tools?
We are getting different options for the Synchronisation between the two tools that makes no sense.
Using the Architect it gives the option of transferring the documentation, but not with the Designer.
Why is thee a difference?
Thank you,
Francois
Designer is for people who will be doing modeling. It gives them the capability to create and update models but many of the repository management capabilities are not included. In ARIS 4 SAP that includes the syncronization capabilities, for these you must have a architect license. Other things like user management and merge are also only in architect.
Hi Rick,
Thank you for the feedback.
My problem is not with the differences of functionality between the Arch & Des. it has more to do with the Synchronization of the models between the two.
I am working at a client that for some reason only have Designer for SAP licenses. When comparing screenshots of the synchronisation between the designer and the architect there is an option to transfer the documents (Project Documentation) one the Arch but not the Des... I would assume that if you allow the synchronisation from the designer too, that you will be able to transfer the same content... which does not seem to be the case. I would like to understand why.
Maybe I am just missing some setting, so I am hoping someone can shed some light as to the difference I am experiencing.
Please advise.
Rgs,
Francois
There is no need to synchronise models between Designer and Architect. They work from the same repository. You can only synchronise between SAP SOLMAN and the ARIS repository with an Architect license. Once the synchronization is done, you should be able to see any models, objects, etc in either Designer or Architect. It is not possible to manage the ARIS environment without at least one Architect license as that is where user administration is done.
Hi Rick,
Ok, so after the misunderstanding, I see my explanation before can be confusing :) I got to the following conclusion and answer to my question.
As you are aware there is the ARIS Architect for SAP and the ARIS Designer for SAP that gives you the ability to transfer ARIS content to SAP Solman. Both the Des and Arch tools can connect to and transfer the process data to Solman, but only the Architect license can push the documentation through for some reason. So after getting an ARIS Architect for SAP Demo license from SAG could I see that it is indeed a license issue. In other words, only the Arch for SAP can transfer documents.
The Designer for SAP can transfer everything, except the documents. To me that does not make any sense, but it is what it is :(
I would like to hear from SAG as to why they allow data transfer with the designer and then willfully exclude documents...?
Cheers,
Francois
