My name is Charles Whiteley III and I am an ARIS/BPML/Six Sigma BB at Accenture. A few months ago I had the opportunity to work with some very seasoned Master BB's on a project for a large telco organization up in Seattle. This was the first time that Accenture had ever embarked on a project like this, and the young kid was about to show the old dogs some new tricks ;)

Enter ARIS, the modeling tool of choice for Accenture, Deloitte and countless other mid to large size businesses.

Old school master black belts are all about preparation, so we met up the Friday before the workshop kick off to buy supplies. You have all seen the VSA box of goodies: stickies, sharpies, tape and butcher paper : )

Our client had just purchased Oracle BPA and wanted to make sure that anything that came up during the workshop could be transferred into ARIS. In addition, the client had also purchased the rights to Accenture's CTOM reference model.

When we started prepping the room, I asked the boys if they wanted to take a look at the tool I would be using to preserve all the work for the upcoming week. Needles to say they were very disinterested at first. I let them set up the butcher paper, all neat and pristine, set up the SIPOC and start to lay out all of the colored stickies in a way that made them easy to follow.

In parallel, I had pulled all of the Level 3 content for the process we were conducting the VSA for. Site tower construction. I went ahead and asked if I could have a few sticky notes myself and started laying the framework for the E2E process.

In addition, I created new symbols for each of their colored sticky notes so it would be easy for them to read and review with management. We also created a few new objects and attributes:

Object: Defect, Transport/Move, Input, Activity, etc.

Attribute: Defect Occurrence, Defect Identified, Project Charter, Project Owner, Priority, etc.

Stay tuned for what happens next : )

Charles,

hopefully you will get to use the ARIS Business Simulator as well, useful to evaluate process change and reduce risk
