I had to re-install ARIS Express after un-installing and re-installing Java on my work box. I am stuck at step 3 of the initial Activation Wizard. The "Enter login data" pop-up remains active after several minutes. It says it's "Checking user name and password..." but nothing is happening.

I have already consulted the FAQ on this problem. I do have an internet connection. I can go to the ARIS website and login to the Community. I have verified that my Java network settings are as recommended in the FAQ. I am not currently logged into my company VPN.

Details: I am running Windows 7 (64-bit) on a Dell Optiplex 960 with the max amount of memory (8 GB). I am currently using Java SE 6 update 29. This box has company-enforced intrusion prevention software (McAfee).

Hi,

Express is not able to do an connect to the community to check the account. It might be allowed for e.g. your browser, but not for Express as a JRE embedded application (webstart).

There is no other way to check with your IT.

Do we have a offline activation process available (like by mail or by activation key)?

I'm facing the same issue than previous user.

Hi,

sorry, no, that does not exist. There is no other way then setting up your connection in the JRE or internet options.

I AM my IT, have the same problem, and could use a little help. Otherwise, the software is useless. Can you please recommend a set of steps to follow to get the activiation wizard to stop cycling at the login screen? Clearly you know what the issue is; how can I (myself on my laptop) fix it?  Thanks.

Hi,

as described in the FAQ, as long Express is not able to connect to the community in order to check your account, it won't start.

If you open the first page of tha java control panel, net work settings, you got a dialog to set up the right option, which lays on your hands. FYI: Express uses https (secure connection) to check your account.

I was trying to activate on my work laptop, from work.

In my case it was something on the corporate network that was blocking activation, such as the web proxy or firewall.

No one from Aris has been straight forward enough to say exactly what domain/IP port/protocol the app is trying to connect on. All of their suggestions have been very general and vauge, such as "it uses https", we'll generally speaking my company allows https, so it must be doing a little more than that. I assume they're trying to keep their activation method a secret.

Regardless, what I did was take my laptop home, connect it to my personal wifi network, which doesn't have any restrictions, made sure the laptop had the corporate web proxy disabled, then I was able to activate.

The issue that is mentioned may be due to the initial ARIS password being used.

If you use the password that is emailed to you when you join the ARIS community, the Wizard will loop as described.

The workaround is to log on to ARIS using the link in the password email; go to Edit Profile; change password and save settings; then to rerun the Wizard.

This is a bug in the Wizard. It should not just sit, but instead display a warning that allows you to fix the issue yourself.

wizard at any launch with the 4 steps (Aris express 2.4 on Mac OS X) 

it did not before :(

 

would be great to have a signature with config such as 

* Aris Designer 7.2 (761234) - Mac OS X 10.8.2 - java 1.6.37

* Aris Express 2.4 on x64 Intel - Mac OS X 10.8.2 & 10.6.8 - java 1.6.37

I am having the same problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and bringing my laptop home to a private network, and nothing has worked. Ideas?

any update on this, cos windows .exe version and java version doesnt activate my aris express at all. as you can see Im logedin as memeber, i have a working internet connction wt a proxy but activation doesnt work :(

I had a similar problem.

After setting localserver enabled="true" in the arisclient.cfg, the login data was transmitted.

This does'nt help. I tried setting localserver enabled="true" in the arisclient.cfg.

I tried the workaround of changing the password on web and login again with wizard.

I could not find, settings on Launch Wizard, to configure the internet options.

Appreciate any help.
