After downloading the "express.jnlp" locate java Web Start.app in folder below if using OSX 10.5.7

/System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app

Start the application then return to your jnlp file and run it. This time it will not be opened by text editor like before, but it will start Express installtion procedure. Enjoy.

I've downloaded "express.jnlp" as described above and started the Java Web app, but nothing happend. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.1 with the installed java version

java version "1.6.0_15"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-219)

Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.1-b02-90, mixed mode)

on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

I've installed all Mac OS X patches as provided by the automatic software update tool.

Do you've go an idea why the installation doesn't start as expected?

THANKS for your support

Markus

I have successfully installed ARIS Express on Mac OS X 10.6 :-)).

My only problem is, that line feed doesn't work.

Anyone having tips for this?

Actually this works very well, although your Mac must be configured to handle Java WebStart, i.e. those JNLP files. There is a Apple-knowledge base article for troubleshooting.

But please be aware that this is not a platform supported by IDS Scheer.

But now to the problems :-(

Hi,

I started using ARIS Express on a Mac for a while and it works very well. Except some facile restrictions, you can work with it as on a Windows platform. In my experience ARIS Express on a Mac is running stable, as fast as on Windows and without any functionality constraints. So I am pretty excited of it !

My system:

OS: MAC OS X 10.6.2

Processor: 2.4 GHz Inter Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4 GB DDR3

L2-Cache: 3MB

Java Version: 1.6.0_17

@Michael and everyone having problems: Sorry, I can not figure out your problems, but maybe my java console report does it. This is the java logfile of the ARIS Express start. Just compare it with yours!

cheers

I’ve just download and install ARIS Express on mac os 10.5.7. Install procedures finished well and application started without any problem (cool). I quit ARIS Express and ... which file I should click now to lunch application? If I start express.jnlp then install procedures are starting again :/

Hi,

if you open your Java Panel (well, in Window can reach the Java Panel in the System panel... do not ask me 'bout Mac), you have on the first "general" page a section "temporary internet files". If you click "settings", you'll get a page where an option "leave temporary files on computer" is available. Make sure this is switched on.

The reason is, that Java Webstart considers an application to be stored in a "cache" (I hate that term in that context). If you do not keep the application stored, it is downloaded every time.

Bye,

Frank

The Java preferences can be set in:

Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences

However changing the settings and emptying the cache does not help for me.

After launching Aris Express 2.0 keeps coming back with the msg:

"Unable to launch the application"

Cheers,

HJ

Hi HJ,

in this dialog displaying the message "unable to launch", there are additional tabs showing additional information. Can you post them?

Did this ever get resolved.  I have the same problem.  Runs fine but re-downloads and installs every time I run it.  Do have "keep temporary files" on.

Hi,

I just like to mentioned, that Express is not officially released for the Mac.

The reason is simple: Apple provides an own Java virtual machine. Therefore, a different - and maybe wrong - behavior might occur. This is completely out of our hands. This has nothing to do with Express itself, but with the Apple virtual machine. If the application gets downloaded even if the option is set (and the available space for the webstart cache is high enough), this is IMHO a bug on Apple's virtual machine.

Bye,

Frank

Does this mean we just have to forget about being able to use Aris Express on a Mac?

I know that there are applications that can run on a Mac. Is it only Aris that has this problem with the virtual machine of Apple?

No, it does run on the Mac and quite well for the most part.  It just take a very long time to get started.  As I'm new to Macs I can't anser your second question.

Hello,

There is a bug in the new Java version 7, which prevents ARIS Express to start.

http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/frank-weyand/2012-08-27-important-problems-starting-aris-express-bug-oracles-jre-jav…

If you installed the new version, maybe per automatical update, you need to go back to an older version of Java.

Sorry for any inconveniences. I hope, the new JRE version, where the bug have been fixed, will be released soon.

Bye,

Frank

aris express 2.3 on Moutain lion 10.8.2 with Java 1.6 only

1) Remove the the existing symbolic link:

sudo rm /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

2) Create a new symbolic link:

sudo ln -s /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle/Contents/Resources/JavaPlugin2_NPAPI.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

downolad  this : Télécharger,  install (last apple java 1.6)

With the Terminal open, type in java -version then press Enter.  Then retrieve the current java version, in this example being 1.6.0_xx

if not start again

open java preferences, (préférences java mountain lion)

network part

delete cache quit

try to launch Aris express

done

If you experience downloads on (almost) each startup, follow these steps to get around this problem:

  • Run the following command on a shell:

    ping cdn-download.ariscommunity.com
  • The result of this command will contain something similar to:

    Reply from 216.137.61.220: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=55

    Reply from 216.137.61.220: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=55

    Reply from 216.137.61.220: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=55
  • The number 216.137.61.220 is an IP address and might be different depending on your physical location. Take note of this number.
  • Add the following entry to your hosts file
  • sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts

replacing the IP address with the one the ping command has shown:

    216.137.61.220 cdn-download.ariscommunity.com

The exact location and format of your hosts file depends on the operating system you use.
