During ARIS Express installation process, an Internet access error occurs when  activating the profile.

“Enter login data/ Unable to connect to ARIS Community. Please connect to the internet when running ARIS Express for the first time so that your login data can be checked. Please also check the proxy settings of your system in the internet options.”

Please advise why this problem could be happening. Our specialist’s ideas are: 1. An access to exact internet-source shall be opened and 2.  Some network hardware ports shall be opened.

The last question is whether we need to register each user for that product or can we  install the program on several machines with  single profile?

Hi,

actually, every user of ARIS Express needs a community account. You can use the software for free, private or commercial use, but the community account is obligatory for every user.

There might be different issues why Express cannot connect to the community. Most common problem is the connect through the proxy.

If you are using the windows version of Express, not every proxy configuration works... To solve this, you could download the webstart version of Express, because this version has other means to connect to the internet.

Once your account is checked, you can get rid of the webstart version (see alternative download in the download section) and use the windows version.

Bye,

Frank

Dear Frank,

Good day!

Thank you very much for your reply and  explanations.

Anyway i have one more question.

I used Aris express on my personal computer at home and therefore used my community account  there. So is it necessary to  use my personal community account once again on my workplace computer? I also changed the hardware at home (brand new computer), so do i need to receive a new account to download Aris Express at home?

Please advise whether we understood right that the link to the webstart  page is http:// download.ariscommunity.com/express.jnlp ?

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Galina

Hi Galina,

Every user needs an account. So it is not important where you installed Express, and how often... as long as it is you - and not somebody else - which uses this installation.

And: Yes, the download link is correct.

Bye,

Frank

Dear All,

I found a work-around for this problem. Posted here if helps anybody.

Problem: ARIS express needs internet connection for first time opening after installation. For users beyond corporate network, it is likely to give an error - "UNABLE TO CONNECT" even if you provide an userid/password which works fine when you directly login to ARIS community site.

I solved this much earlier for myself by trying the first-time registration through a direct connection, and that was it. But now as some colleagues are trying to do it on desktop, they are not allowed to take the computer outside office for a direct connection.

Solution: An advice in another post here was to use webstart version. It worked for me but not for some other people who were using desktops. You can try these steps -

1. Install ARIS express as usual using the downloaded installer

2. Connect to site https://www.ariscommunity.com using a browser and download the certificate, I saved it as .cer on the computer

3. Import the site in the keystore within the JRE embedded for ARIS express (JRE folder within the local installation, the default keystore is named cacerts, and use java keytool for importing)

Step 2 & 3, is bit technical; it was easy for me as I had some past experience in how Java works, but might be a notch tougher for non-technical users. But there are plenty of other internet links which explains how you do this. Actually I had to use a HTTP sniffer tool to understand what is going on.

Hope this helps someone save a little of their precious time.

Regards,

S. Das
