Hello,
I was wondering about copying a completed model from one database to another. I would like to be able to select several models which are completed in one database and copy them, to place in a different database.
The only way I can do this now is by going into the specific model, click on select all then copy it, go into the other database and paste it.
I do not have the functionality to select several models in the explorer view and just copy them and move them over.
Is this an ARIS constraint or did my Admins configure my ARIS this way?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Jimmy Griffin
Dear James,
I had this problem before. I tried this:
If you want to copy several model from one DB to another one, I suggest you to put them on a group, and then export them as an xml file, then log in to your desired DB, import that xml file that obviuosly must contains your models + its related objects in it (make sure you have them all in one) and finaly you can just move your models anywhere in new DB. But anyway, what Mr Woldt said in his post seems to be the more logical way.
In addition to getting permissions there are a couple of things you should know. Merge only works across DBs on the same server. Also, Merge wants both DBs to have the same group structure. If the target DB does not have the needed structure Merge will create it. When you drag and drop in the target DB you have to drop on the DB Name in ARIS explorer. You should always Merge using the method filter - entire method.
Hi Jimmy,
I agree with Rick, you may try the following procedure :
1. Have DB Admin access right to Source and Target DB
2. Enter into these DBs with Entire Method Filter
3. Set Merge properties (View >> Options > Merge >> Conflict resolution properties) in the target database
4. Collect all your processes / folders (and objects if possible ) in one folder say (Transfer Folder) in the source database
5. Copy this top level folder (Transfer Folder)
6. Click on Destination DB and righ click ' Click 'Fast Merge' Or ' Classic Merge'
7. Complete folder would be copied along with the folder structure its created it. + you may see some new folder created (with object n no models in them). These are objects that may be floating around outside the 'Transfer Folder'
8. Collect all these objects using Find function and move them to 'Parent model folder'
9. You may delete these extra folders with no objects / no models in them now.
Next time round, if you need migrate / merge any or same models from Source to Destination. Then set the conflict resolution accordingly, but be very careful.
Thanks
