Forgive the silliness of this question!  The shortcuts on my desktop and Start Menu to launch ARIS Express have disappeared.  What is the command line to launch the application, so that I can recreate the shortcuts?  Thanks!

Hi John,

the best thing would be to just open the download link again. If ARIS Express is still installed, it won't download everything again, but just start ARIS Express. It will also add the shortcut icons again.

If ARIS Express keeps disappearing, it is probably a problem with the size of the Java cache. Please take a look at the FAQ how to increase the size of the cache.

Regards,

Sebastian

Sebastian,

Thanks for the reply.  I did open the download link again, which enabled my beta installation to be upgraded to the full release.  However, the shortcut icons did not reappear.  The only way I can launch Express at this point is via the download link.  I verified the Java cache settings - they are exactly as the FAQ indicates they should be.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

John

Hi,

unfortunately, if you install a new JRE, it could be the case that the link vanishes (not nice from Sun/Java...). If you clean your webstart cache and install again, it should work.

Just open your java panel in the system control panel, select on the first page "Delete..." in the "temporary internet" section, and delete the cache completely. Then, click the download link again.

Then, the installation should be done correctly.

Bye,

Frank

That did the trick!  Thanks!

Frank -- Do you mean to say that a new JRE version installation could potentially make ARIS Express shortcuts to disappear and would require reinstallation of ARIS Express to get the shortcuts back?

Hi Shankar,

actually, that seems to be the case. If a new version of the JRE does change the way the application files are stored, this could happen. We also had a problem, if the user installed the 32 Bit version of a JRE and later on installed a 64 bit version. This seems to be a bug or a lack in the concept or webstart.

Deleting all cached files in the JRE and reinstalling again solved  the problem.

Bye,

Frank
