Apple iPad as part of the BPM future?

I would love to see! In this case I would really think about buying an iPad to see my heating dashboard "always on" ;-)

I was wondering how much sense it will make to develop BPM application or tool for handheld devices or smartphones. It might be iPhone or iPad or any other handheld device.

I am the happy owner of an iPad, and MashZone is an obvious (and I would expect potentially very usefull) app. on iPad / iPhone.

There are multiple examples in the app. store of what is really "customizable data aggregation app.s" (e.g. the Roambi or the Bloomberg), and the on-the-move, always-on, intuitive nature of tablets/SmartPhones make them great for this sort of use.

However, I think there is even greater potential is the creative phases of BPM work. Take a look at iBrainStorm, and imagine working like that with Aris.. Now imagine linking multiple people developing ideas like this, projected on a big screen..

Off course a moderator would have to stop everybody now and then to gather and group ideas, but this - I think - is the closest we will come to the intuitive "post-it / wall" process.

... also dreaming about ARIS Express on the iPAD. Combining the incredible usability of the touch-screen handheld and the great modeling environment.  Who wouldn't LOVE this?

But how could we by-pass the fact that Apple doesn't support Flash? I think there is one solution. But it's not very Apple friendly. There are some competitors on the tablet market and one rival is Samsung with his "Galaxy Tab". It uses as operation system Android which is very promising and it official supports Flash since version 2.1

Short of cracking the iPad, a solution could be to migrate Aris to a non-falsh format, or building an application that runs flash (I would imagine that is possible without Apples intervention).

Alternatively, other tablets would be a solution (although I have yet to see anyone seriously challenge the usability of the iPad).

The problem is that it would mean writing a specific client just for the iPad, because the technology to be used doesn't work on any other platforms. I doubt that many business users are using an iPad for business purposes. Am I wrong here?

I've got a HTC Desire and the usability of Android and HTC Sense is a dream.

@Sebastien. You are probably right. Until now, the iPAD is not positionned as a professional device (some think we only play games on this).  iPhone and Blackberry (or Palm in the past) gained more credibility as professional devices.  Things will change, I hope.

It's a great idea ARIS MashZone and other ARIS products to be supported in tablets and similar devices. I don't know about iPad and other closed platforms. But for the open platforms when porting is needed it's worth it. And it wouldn't be a big effort anyway.

Though we can say that iPad is used for business purposes, there are also numerous people who would want buying it due to its portability. Gladly, the Apple iPad is now available at Amazon, the cradle of Kindle, an e-reader the iPad has blown out of the water. The iPad debuted at Target last week and Amazon is the first online retailer to sell the "Kindle Killer" other than Apple. Making the iPad accessible on Amazon extends Apple’s lead on a legion of wannabe rivals and sets up a mutually beneficial relationship between the two companies.
 

I'm not sure iPad is a Kindle killer.

Today I could use ARIS Mashzone dashboards in my Samsung Galaxy Tab, running Android 2.2.

Everything worked fine. I've tested with some examples in Mashzone Galery.

Don't hesitate to give an update if there are any plans from SAG to do something for the iPad! It has been chosen in my company as the tablet device and I know it will be difficult not to have the mashapps on it!

Aris designer for ipad would be great :

- design on ipad (no server, connection needed),

- Sync when you're back office with our designer

ready to test it!
