Last week the Process Intelligence roadshow visited Brussels and Amsterdam. At the show the participants saw an interesting keynote from Helge Hess focusing on the relation of business success and operational processes. Helge Hess explained how the strategy of a company should be reflected in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). KPIs need to be mapped to the operational processes which have a direct impact on the KPI.

After this presentation we had a Process Intelligence live demo where three tools worked together to improve the business processes of UMG (virtual car manufacturer). On a strategic level, ARIS MashZone was used to show that the target order processing cycle time was not reached. At this tactical level ARIS Process Performance Manager came in to help find and fix the problem. Then webMethods Optimize was used in the operational layer to monitor the order process in real-time. This tight integration of ARIS and webMethods products was demonstrated for the first time and attendees really liked it. Each level of Process Intelligence (strategic, tactical, and operational) was covered.

Now it was time for a real Process Intelligence user. Heineken is using Process Intelligence to monitor its procurement processes. Adapters extract process steps from IT systems and the system automatically reengineers the procurement processes as they are executed all over the world. Heineken found deficiencies in the process and was able to fix them right away. Heineken is using a very catchy name for their Process Intelligence project – they call it: Passion for Performance. I really like it and I am sure I will use it more often from now on ;-)  The famous beer brewer was creating a holistic BPM initiative to bundle their process optimization activities. For this, they merged the IT department with their BPM department. This is an essential step to improve processes. IT and business need to "merge" to align business processes with the supporting IT systems.

The last session of the day was the highly anticipated MashCamp. Stephan Freudl had two hours to help the participants to install MashZone on their laptops and to create their first mashup. I helped some attendees and I must say I was surprised how fast they learned and how quickly they created mashups using their own data. Some of them created mashups which they can already use in their business environment.

The Process Intelligence show ended with a few drinks, of course from Heineken ;-) It was a perfect setup to talk more about Process Intelligence and its business impact, and each participant received a free Process Intelligence for Dummies book.

I assisted to the presentation in Brussels.

The content and real cases that were shown were impressive.

It is amazing to see how many customers are already using this technology to improve their business processes.

I would advise any manager to get in touch with this team quickly in order to organize a personalized presentation.

Philippe
