Hello!
Is it possible to run ARIS Exprees under Windows user without ADMIN rights? If Yes then How?
Thank you!
It doesn't work if you use the windows-Installation (aris-express-setup.exe)
Instead you have to follow the installation instructions for 'Installation on other systems' on http://www.ariscommunity.com/aris-express/installation
This worked for me
2 Mr. Gerhard Nagel : Customer uses Windows OS.
2 Dr. Sebastian Stein: User has no rights to install software therefore he can not install ARIS Express and system administrator has to install it for user but user does not see it.
That's not a problem.
I installed it on Windows XP and Windows 7 this way.
I don't know what aris-express-setup.exe really does - it can't be anything important...
Since the application is only installed in the java-cache there is no admin-right required for this kind of installation.
The advantage of the setup is that not every single PC needs to download all ARIS Express files, because everything is contained in the setup file. So if you want to roll out ARIS Express on many Windows PCs, I would recommend to use the setup to keep the network traffic low. Besides that, both setups are the same.
have th same problem, I've got an active directory environment and even if I give users admin rights I can't install the aris express. As Mariya said, as administrator Aris works fine so I copied the Icon to the all users - desktop folder but as soon as I log in as the domain user, and click the icon on the desktop application can't start.
Hi Igor,
yes, copying the icon does not work, because Express is downloaded/installed for each user only. In that case, if you do not want to grant administration rights, the only solution is the download via the alternative download link. Here, the user does not need administration right.
Bye,
Frank
Nope. If you use the alternative download link, you do not get a setup, but the download is combined with a direct installation from the web into the java cache. For this, you do not need admin rights. And this installation also works for Windows users.
If you download the setup executable file and start this installation, you need admin rights, that is right.
Bye,
Frank
Hi everybody,
Frank thanks for the continuous support.
guess I've got the solution for this issue. Mariya, try this out:
install aris express with the admin account and with the limited user enter to the control panel -> java control panel.
In the general tab, click on the settings button and verify that the checkbox of "keep temporary files on my computer" is turned on. Save changes and execute the application.
This worked for me... AT LAST!
Bye
Mariya, I seem to use my Windows PC the same way like you do it. Though I administer my computer I use a second, restricted user account and I do my everyday tasks with this account. Admin account is preserved almost exclusively to accomplish real administration and maintenance tasks.
Just now I gave a try and installed ARIS Express again from scratch. I downloaded the installation file. I logged in first as admin and installed ARIS. Success, it works. Then I logged out of the admin account, then logged in as a restricted user. I downloaded again the installation file, started the installation process and followed all steps, exactly the same way like I did before as admin. This was success again! As a restricted user I was able to install ARIS Express without any problem. This sounds in harmony with some of our colleagues' experiences, we can find above.
If you fail to proceed with success the same way, answering two questions may help in sorting out your problem:
- are you the administrator of your PC, or is this role with somebody else?
- At what phase do you particularly meet the first problem along the installation?
This is an important topic and need to be clarified (too much answers).
Explanations need to be clearly visible on web site in order for users to know what file to download and for which case.
If a jnlp file's rule is to download application and install it into Java WS so a setup executable file is not needed, so what (the f*) is that setup file used for?
If I understand Peter Füzi well, we shall install first time in admin account then in limited account?
Thanks M. Weyand,
After reading again, I understand setup file contains the ARIS Java WS application that Java tries to download when it thinks it needs to do so. It is stored into Java cache so it do not have to download.
But each time, Java download ARIS application again and again (see other post in other topic), so I couldn't mind the goal of that setup file.
I have tried for 2 days to download ARIS with no luck. I am on Windows 7, Java 6 and IE 8. My Java settings are well above minimum. I have tried to run the windows install both as a user and as an administrator. My PC is a stand alone personal where I am both the Admin and user. There is only one listed user on the PC. I have tried the non-windows approach with no success. The windows approach downloads to my comp but will not allow me to run the install wizard. Just at the point where I give permission to run the install wizard I get the following message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item". Any help would be appreciated as to what to adjust in my setup.
