It is very buggy that ARIS Express don't run with JRE7.
Whats the problem? The world knows JRE 7, more than a year!
ARIS ist a very cool tool, but ist is not running on actual systems, poor!
Is there any plan to fix that problem in nearest time?
Thx
Olaf
Hello,
the problem is one of the newest JRE version. This is currently identified as a bug by Oracle in the JRE, and fixed meanwhile in the update 10 or the JRE 1.7.
More:
As long the updated JRE is not available, there is no other way than downgrading to an older version.
Just to have this clear: this is out of our hands. It is a bug in the JRE, there is nothing we can fix.
Bye,
Frank
I have encountered this same problem as have so many others. Since my system is new and have only JRE version 7, update 7, I cannot downgrade (and would nor wish to due to security issues). When I saw the note about JRE update 10 being the fix, I (yesterday) did a Java upgrade but, sadly only to update 9.
This caused the links to Aris Express on the desktop and the Start Menu to disappear completely. It also does not appear in control panel "programs and features" (I am using Win 7 Pro). If I run the installer again, it goes through the usual access to the Internet and then says the install was successful but there are still no links, etc.
So now, I have no way to un-install either!
Are there any new ideas on how to fix this? I was really looking forward to trying this app.
Thanks!
TJanz
Hi,
just let me have this clear (again): this is understood to be a bug in the JRE.
There is nothing, really nothing we can do.
Also developers make mistakes from time to time, so as a logical consequence, this happens on Oracle's side here and then. So I don't blame them, especially, since this bug has been fixed already from their side (thanks again to the Oracle guys to react on my bug entry that fast!).
That is the problem with automatic updates. Could be that you get an update with new features, security issues... but, as well, with new bugs. And this just happened right now.
I'd be happy if the new JRE would be updated asap, but this, logically, is out of our hands.
Bye,
Frank
Thanks Frank.
I do understand about waiting until they fix the JRE. I am sure by now you're getting a bit tired of explaining it :-)
No doubt your developers have looked into it and, if there were any work-around they could do from their end, they would have carried that out.
It's kinda tough to be at the mercy of someone else. Good thing that Oracle responds so well to your request for a fix. Let us hope they release version 10 soon.
As for automatic updates, I always have them set to manual but I don't always hear about the bugs before I let an install happen. (This is on my home system).
From an enterprise perspective, I would advise people that updates always be staged and tested by IT/IS before being deployed, especially if an important business application like ARIS might be impacted. In a business, I always advise against automatic updates. If one has no IT staff , there are ways to test in the case of mission critical apps.
Of course it is always easy to have hindsight in such matters.
Thanks again for keeping us up to date on this issue.
