I have a customer who is asking why does ARIS delete the connection definitions in the Database at the same time that these are deleted in the Maxtrix Model that they appear in. I thought that the relationships could not be deleted unless a Reorg was run. Also are these relationships a duplication of those that already exist of the related objects but in other model types? In a Matrix I understood they could be created directly into the model from new or they would appear in the model should they already exist between two object specified.
Can anyone give me some pointers or experience they've had themselves.

A Matrix model is something more like a report on the connection definitions that exist between objects. That is why a connection, that you create in any model will appear immediately (after reopening) in any matrix model where the two objects appear on the axis and the matrix model is configured to display that connection type. So with matrix models you directly manipulate the definitions, since they always show what's up at definition level. So consequently if you delete a connection definition in the matrix model it also removes all occurrences of the connection anywhere.
On the other hand, a connection that you create in the matrix model will NOT automatically appear in any non-matrix models where the objects have occurrences and that connection type is allowed. This is normal, since you always want to decide in any model, which part of reality (i. e. definitions) you would like to depict as occurrences.
In recent ARIS 9 versions it is configurable, if the reorganization of the database will consider connections shown in matrix models as an occurrence of the connection and thus leave the definition untouched, if it has no other occurrences. Unfortunately that configuration is not a per-model setting, but globally for the whole tenant (or even the server?). This knowledge is a bit older (9.6) and I'm not sure, if it has changed with the latest releases.
