Dear Prabhakaran,

I am not sure if I understood your use case correctly.

Do you want to transfer your ARIS models to your customer's ARIS installation?

You could backup your ARIS database and restore it on your customer's ARIS installation, assuming that this is the same product version.

Cheers

Hello Prabhakaran,

1. Your ARIS version needs to be the same or older than the target environment (no older than 7.2.4). Then you can take Rune's suggestion. Watch out for special migration procedures and issues, if your version is 7.2.x and the target is 9.x. Also you need to be aware of any method customizations in your source environment, which you may inadvertently import to the target environment. You need to move such customizations by creating a filter from your source database and import that to the target environment. Otherwise custom method elements in your moved database won't be visible in the target environment.

2. You could use the XML export in your environment and import the file in the target environment into any existing database. Pitfalls: If you have an active Access license for your local account the export file is unencrypted and you need an Access license assigned to you in the target environment as well in order to be able to import the file. Exporting without active Access license is always safe. Also the import of any custom method elements that are not existent in the target environment (and filter you are logged in with) will fail. Anyway the filter you are logged in with in the target database restricts what you can import from the file. For derived model elements the import may try to do a fallback to the base types in this case, but that is likely to cause you trouble as well, since you probably had your reasons to create derived types. If you are sure, that the method configuration is identical in the two environments, you should be safe. Again: Ideally you should have the same ARIS version as your customer. If your version is newer, very likely you are in trouble.

Side note: Most customers with productive ARIS environments will be very careful before allowing any foreign filter or content to be imported to their environment. Especially if they have renamed standard method elements or you do, this would "pollute" the target environment.
