I find the option to create new filters by merging several others very useful. I use it extensively when particular projects require customisation that I don't want to allow in my standard method. the merged filter is then built from the standard (as updated from time to time) plus a filter describing only the extras. However, when one of the underlying filters is updated and I want to propagate that to a derived filter, the option to update an existing filter by merging filters is not available. One could of course recreate from scratch but then the connection between the filter and the users and user groups is lost jeopardising the integrity of the user security.

What is the reason for not offering "merge filters" when updating?

If I must delete the old and recreate, is there any way to get a list of which users and user groups use the filter (preferably without writing scripts which would mean learning a whole new set of skills)?
