Hi there!
We experience problems at storing ARIS Express models in Windows 7 on our file server. This problem only occures with ARIS Express, so user problems ect. should'nt play a role in this case. We save a model and navigate to our file server. Some folders have a link symbol where we can not enter to save the model. Where we can save the model is on for example the desktop. Are there any known problems with this case or does anybody have a hint for this problem?
Thanks in advance!
Markus
Hi Markus,
that sounds weird. I'm not aware that Microsoft fundamentally changed the file system in Windows 7. What kind of file server are you using? Can you store an ARIS Express file in an ordinary folder on the server (not one with a link as described by you)? What error message do you get?
Hi Sebastian!
We use Microsoft file servers. Yes, we can save the ARIS Express file in ordinary folders. The situation is, when you open up the file dialogue for saving the file you get the list of folders, some are with link symbol and others without. When you try to doubleclick onto a folder with link symbol you can't enter the folder to store the file in there. There's no problem with other files like .doc or .txt to store those files in the same way. Could it be, that ARIS Express uses the Internet during execution and therefore the saving process is restricted to the local machine?
Hi,
this has something to do with the browsing of the application within the "file save dialog": if you enter the filename completely, e.g. \\myserver\mydirectory\myfile.adf, it should work.
Just entering \\myserver, pressing return and browsing to the folder won't work.
In that case, you can map these directories.
Express works without internet usage (after its registration), so it is related to the folder you've got on your servers.
Bye,
Frank
Hi Frank!
This sounds weird to me, because then I should have the same problems when saving a .txt or snag-it file to the file-server location. I'm just trying to save the .adf file to the file-server location (see attached picture) but then I get this symbols at the folders and I can't enter them from ARIS Express. However it still works from Word, Editor or SnagIt. Typing the full qualified filename is just not worth the effort, cause the directory the files should be saved in is very deep in the file-system. So the workaround is to save the files on the local machine and then copying them to the target location. Thanks a lot anyway!
Hi Markus,
Microsoft Word and ARIS Express use very different technologies. Therefore, the browsing might work in Word, but not in ARIS Express. The only way to get around this problem is typing the full qualified folder name. Another more convenient option would be to map the folder to a drive and use the drive instead.
