Hi,
I am a student of the University of Leipzig and would like to install my ARIS 9.7 students licence on the university server. I already did it, but I couldn' t use the LOCAL server because it doesn' t appear. So do I need a special version for this?
The main idea is to use ARIS at home without installing it on my computer. I can connect my computer via VM-Ware to the university Server.
Thanks for answers (in German, too ;)
Steffen
Hello Steffe,
You do not need any special version for this. Please also take a look at the following thread if you have problems connecting to the LOCAL server:

Hello Steffen,
main point to note is, that the LOCAL server is only present with a locally installed client application. You don't get it with the download client from a remote server.
Or do you have a terminal window of the university server (via VM-Ware), so you are actually running the fat client on the remote machine (where it is installed locally)? In that case, forget my first comment. But check, if the client on the university machine is installed with the LOCAL server option. I could imagine, that it isn't, because if multiple remote users started LOCAL servers on the machine, any server resources will soon be exhausted. Consider that a LOCAL server instance easily consumes 5-6 GB of RAM.

Edit: I'm not sure, if that scenario is feasible, that a Terminal server runs multiple LOCAL server sessions for different users.
LOCAL can only accept 1 active user/client. It can't be used to support multiple connections.
I wish someone would finally rename "LOCAL" to "My databases", so that everyone intuitively knows that "My databases" can never be accessed by anyone else than me.
Cheers
