Hello Community,
is there a possibility to export a ARIS default symbol (e.g. Application system type, #33, ST_APPL_SYS_TYPE) in the ARIS metafile format (AMF) to make some layout changes to it and then assign this modified symbol as a new symbol to an user defined symbol?
As the ARIS Symbol Editor is not very comfortable and accurate I would prefer to directly editing the exported AMF file.
For a better understanding you can find an example of the AMF fileformat below:
Thank you very much for you support!

Volker, the standard symbol shapes are already available in ARIS Symbol Editor. When you add new symbols to the tool bar (the double arrows), you can add them to the toolbar and then reuse them for new symbols.
The base symbol number will be shown when you hover over the icon while selecting the shape.
AFAIK the AMF format is based on SVG, so you might want to give Inkscape a try ... (but I haven't played around with that since the symbol editor was always sufficient for my needs).
Hello Roland,
thank you for that hint regarding the symbol editor tool bar. After selecting an ARIS default symbol I can save it in the AMF format.
However I am still looking for some documentation about the AMF-XML-namespace for ARIS symbols. There are some special AMF-tags allowed which are used for setting the "behaviour" of the symbol within ARIS (e.g. "amf:fill-replaceable=true", which allows to change the filling color of the symbol in the Designer).

Volker
Volker,
We do a lot of work with AMF files for rendering to other targets. We have found the AMF patent filing to be a useful source of documentation on the amf: specific tags.
The easiest way to access the patent itself is to use www.patentfetcher.com and enter the patent # 20060290544
Hope this helps. DavidHi
Out of curiosity, did you find a way to have Express symbols in ARIS Symbol Editor? It seems that the available symbols in symbol Editor are fixed and not in synch with ARIS metamodel. So I have ARIS Express Symbols in ARIS, but can't get them in ARIS Symbol Editor yet.
Thanks and BR
