Does anybody know if there is a report that can be run to show the activity of all users for all databases? Our users are spread across 4-5 countries around the world and we are constantly looking for spare licenses. The tool is expensive and, in order to promote adoption, we would like those who need it to get it and, those who are not using it, to loose it. A report that shows how often and/or when last a user logged on would be very helpful in justifying their license of the tool.
Thanks
Hi Damian,
the server can log user activity in a XML format based file "arisaccountlog.xml". Which logs with detailed mode:
- database
- user
- login
- logout
- clienttype
- filter
- clientip
- clienthost
- clientlicense
- clientid
Please check the document "installation_administration_guide_s.pdf" as part of your ARIS installation.

Hello Damian,
We use ARIS version 7.1 and there is something called Account logging that could help you. It is a functionality that you will need to activate on the ARIS Business Server side in one of the configuration files. The service needs to be re-started after the change in the configuration file.
Once it is activated it will then generate log files typically once a day where you can see login/logout/userID/ARIS License information, like in this example:
- <arisaccounting> - <session> <login>2012-08-06T09:10:15</login> <logout>2012-08-06T09:11:16</logout> <clientlicense>"License is shown here"</clientlicense> <clientid>21a83520-c76d-11e1-61d8-00237d347a8a</clientid> </session>The <clientid> tag shows the GUID of the user logged, this you will have to translate to something more understandable by using a translation table of the registered users.
To switch on the logging functionality, go to the ARIS Business Server installation directory and find there the file "ArisServer.cfg". It is found in the directory"<ARIS Business Server installation>\server\config". In the file you need to locate this entry:
<!-- Turn on/off logging of user login/logout times -->
<accounting state="off" />
and change the value to be "on" instead of "off". Thereafter please re-start the Business Server service and check the result the next day. A file called something like "arisaccountlog_08_06_2012_08_35_24.xml" has then been created in the directory "<ARIS Business Server installation>\accounting".
Good luck! / Harry R
Hi All,
I am using ARIS Business Architect 7.1 and could not find the ArisServer.cfg file neither on my local - C:\Program Files\ARIS7.1\LocalServer\config nor on the ARIS Server. Please let me know where I need to find the file and where to change the settings - in my local or on the sever.
Merci,
Sagar
Dear Sagar,
you have to search on your ARIS Server installation folder. There has to be a folder "config" and there you should find all config files.
As Jens already wrote you should find more help at the "installation_administration_guide_s.pdf".
Best regards,
Anja
I ran into a weird problem while trying to match the GUIDs exported from ARIS to the clientids from the server logs: they do not match. Not a single one of them. The amount of unique clientids seems to match the amount of unique GUIDs. Any idea what could cause this issue?
Best regards,
Kimmo
