100x: this is the amount that data traffic has grown for communication service providers (CSPs) in western markets over the past decade – increasing more than a hundredfold. This has however not led to corresponding revenue growth: revenues have essentially been flat and traditional value pools have gradually eroded. There have been various reasons that caused this commoditization of the traditional telco connectivity services business and as a result, CSP’s market capitalization underperformed compared to other industries.

To be able to invest enough to support the future connectivity needs of industry, society, and governments, CSPs need to tap into new revenue streams and fundamentally re-imagine their business. In this context, the term “techco” has emerged describing how some CSPs are seeking to change their organizations, business models, customer relations, and the technology they deploy.

As a result, CSPs are currently undergoing massive business transformations. The rise of new technologies like 5G, AI/ML, IoT, and cloud forces CSPs to continuously invest in new technologies. These investments need to be funded through efficiency improvements in legacy systems, processes, and organizations. These business transformation initiatives focus on streamlining existing processes and introducing automation while simultaneously delivering a better customer digital experience and enabling new business models.

The backbone of an efficient business transformation is a company’s business processes. The ability to adapt them fast and flexibly brings businesses a crucial competitive edge.

Many CSPs that have successfully completed this transformation, rely on the eTOM business process framework. For context, the TM Forum is a global industry association for service providers and their suppliers in the telecommunications sector. It provides an open, collaborative environment to help its members with tools, frameworks, and information in their transformation initiatives. TM Forum provides eTOM as a hierarchical classification scheme with descriptions of the key business processes required to run a service-focused business.

This eTOM framework is available as an accelerator package in ARIS for free download. After being imported into your ARIS instance, it is ready to use immediately.

Register now for the webinar to learn from TMForum and Software AG experts how eTOM and ARIS work together and how they can help you to accelerate your business transformation.
