Good afternoon. We have physical keys (USB) from Aris Business Designer in our organization, but the installation package is lost. How can I get the installation package? Thanks.

Hello,

you could get the installation packages via support ticket. The other question is, if you have any systems this could be installed on? If I am not mistaken, all operating systems 7.1 could run on are EOL at Microsoft?

Best regards, M. Zschuckelt

It works nicely everywhere - Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, whatever. Good old Germany quality, it will work for many years ;)

Well, good luck then. :-) Good to know. I had the impression support for 32-bit technology was somewhat becoming extinct. 7.1 had its end of maintenance some time around 2010, I believe.

ARIS 7.X is an extremely reliable system comparing with 10.X. I cannot remember even one case when I got corrupted data in ARIS 7. And ARIS 7 was lighter, faster, and smarter.

If there is a good infrastructure around ARIS 7, let say instead of Connect you use the data export to SharePoint, then you have a more interesting and more reliable solution. We would not compare Power BI with Aware, wouldn't we?

Relate maintenance, as I said before, ARIS is extremely reliable. "Install-and-forget". There some clients who have ARIS 7 since 2010, as you correctly mentioned.

I'm not gonna tell you that if you want to start with ARIS you have to use ARIS 7. Of course, it would be weird. But if you already have ARIS 7 licenses there are very few reasons to move to ARIS 10, indeed. IMHO ;)

Hi Alexander, from a technical point of view you would probably be right in your last statement. However, from a business adoption point of view you couldn't be futher from reality. When I was still a customer of SAG using ARIS 7.2 and I compare that to what ARIS 10.x can do, it's night and day. The way that Connect makes it easy to contribute, collaborate, share and model processes is simply uncomparable to 7.x.

BPM (for which ARIS is used typically) has evolved from IT-confined process modeling, to business-wide process management over the years. This requires a more intuitive, simple and flexible UI, things 7.x simply did not have.

Maybe I misready between the lines and I missed sarcasm, but a succesful implementation of ARIS is depending much more on user adoption than it is on features and functionality, something in which ARIS 10 excels compared to 7.x

just my two cents.... :-)

Hi Caspar,

I admit, and I pointed that in a previous post, that for new users it would be ridiculous to use ARIS 7. The main reason some clients are still on ARIS 7, is, unfortunately, the questions to quality of ARIS 10. Because, using your words, the quality is as "night and day". I understand your excitement about different collaboration features, but if you would not be an employee of SAG, and look at all this through the user's glasses, probably you would have another point.

This requires a more intuitive, simple and flexible UI, things 7.x simply did not have.

If we take modeling tools, I'm sorry but what has become more intuitive in ARIS 10? It is the same old good Architect/Designer 7 with not very successful face-lifting. All you did guys is (1) doom-grey-colored interface, the ridiculous tab bars menu (2), and new weird symbols set (3). That is all. Maybe I missed something, then please kindly point me to what has changed in ARIS 10 and makes it more 'simple and flexible'. The good point to start discussing this is, let say, the 'killing' of the Local Server in ARIS 10 and how it increased the flexibility of ARIS. Or how performance increased in ARIS 10, some of the clients, when they see the technical requirements, say that their ERP needs less ))

Unfortunately, this is a trend. If to take the level of innovations... If there is an innovation in SR14 to add RTF to attributes... well, there were two applications on the planet without this feature - ARIS and Notepad, now left one. And we will see how it will work with scripts and how it would be handy to edit pictures in those small attribute windows. To keep pace, I would recommend adding emoticons for SR15.

Hi Alexander, to start with the easy one: SR14 indeed now has RTF editor for example for descriptions. It also brings the ability to include pictures and videos. So, I guess that would be a step up :-) . Furthermore, my comments on the more intuitive design come from my experience (as a user and customer of SAG) leading a BPM CoE in a global manufacturing company a couple of years ago. We implemented ARIS 7.2 (which I still call the Engineer's version, because it can do practically anything, but the UI was sub-optimal (and then I put that very kindly). Now working with our customers I notice two things:

1. Customers that are still on 7.x and move to 10.x are, without exception, very happy with the 10.x UI/UX. It has become webbased, less cluttered and easier to navigate (compared to the Publisher for instance). These are not my words, but my customers'.

2. Another trend I see is that our customers want to the BPM platform to be more simple. This is also the reason why we have been moving (and are still moving) admin tasks from the java client into our Connect environment. Also this is appreciated by our customers.

Now, to some degree I would agree with you that somewhere down the line, ARIS might benefit from an overhaul of the meta-model and maybe the core technology, but for now I honestly believe it's the most powerful BPM platform in the market, certainly if used for more than just some modeling.

I do not know what they happy with, we have definitely different clients. I'll tell you, since Oct. 2020 we got three (!) DB crashes in prod in different projects/clients/platforms. Maybe Connect is a nice tool, in theory. But if to count resource enabling, a ridiculous price, and extremely low quality, all those 'benefits' do have very low value.

Another trend I see is that our customers want to the BPM platform to be more simple. This is also the reason why we have been moving (and are still moving) admin tasks from the java client into our Connect environment. Also this is appreciated by our customers.

What is going on indeed, IMHO is that you are trying to reduce cost on two platforms support and move to the browser instead of using Java. It makes sense strategically, of course. But until the browser version is... would say, extremely not mature, the cost will grow. Btw, returning to quality and as you mentioned 'browser administration'. I could not believe how you guys had skipped the Templates management! It's like producing a car and forget about the steering wheel. In another word, if I would need admin actions in SR14, I would use Java anyway. So instead to have one administration place, now you have two locations. Guys, you are awesome.

Totally agree with Alexander. After changing ARIS products structure, considering the outcome with the UI changes, bugs and stability, ARIS 7.x stil stands the most preferable.
