Hi all (especially Runè Becker!)

It’s been awhile since I’ve used Process Generator, and I the latest I have is version 9.0, which still old fashioned VBA that requires Excel for Windows.  We are using modern endpoint technology architecture these days (e.g., x64 PCs, M1 Macs ARM64 macs, etc) and the Excel-side scripts fail to even compile (Hidden Constants module compile error).

I have the same usual goal, to generate a method-compliant XLS template from one or more objects that can be filled out by someone offline and uploaded back into ARIS.  Is there a better, easier way to do this these days (i.e., the shiny new SR18?)

Thanks!

Hello Michael,

the Process Generator became obsolete with the introduction of table based modelling in ARIS Connect Designer (it was in ARIS 9, I believe). There designers can capture processes in a table-like fashion while all the layouting is done for them instantly.

Best regards,

Hi M. Zschuckelt,

I agree that table-based modeling and auto-layout can be helpful, but it is a narrow use case.  For most real-world advisory situations, we are having to work with lots of people who do not have access, training, or some other reason live ARIS cannot be used.

Even today, the use case for broad-based data collection for catalog items is necessary using offline , readily availble tools -- for example, application catalogs, control catalogs, etc.  I have worked with at least 30 customers over the past 14 years, and still find this to be the case in 2022.

Hi Michael,

if you want to import catalogs in bulk format like application catalogs, control catalogs etc. you can use the "Create Objects" feature. There you can simply import a whole Excel table of objects into a library model via the clipboard and define on-the-fly which column should be stored in which attribute.

I hope this information serves you better. Regards,
