Hi Experts,

I need some advice on ARIS Simulation.

I am trying to create a load to simulate order management process.

The load (at the Start artifact) is described as : at hourly, an uneven order quantity are injected into the process, say 1st hour, 100, 2nd hour 250, 3rd hour 345….

Could you provide the steps how to configure this load ?

I tried looking at the configuration of the Start Event, but it only allows a frequency of Daily, Weekly, Monthly, etc. and only a single number can be entered.

Also, how do you configure distributions (e.. normal distribution) for the Start Event to simulate load arrival rate? I can see the normal distribution option in the function, but not at the Start Event.

If the above is not possible, can you advise on the workaround to simulate the arrival rate? Also, please advise any reason this is not a feature if it cannot be done.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Regards,

Jacky

You can use Schedule models to create instantiation patterns. See "Optimize and control processes/strategy > Simulate processes > Procedure > Modeling > Schedules/Composite schedules (procedure) > Use a schedule as a process instantiation plan" in the ARIS help.

Different distributions can be selected for the start times but not for the quantities.

Hello

Can someone clarify one moment about simulation.

I use ARIS Business Architect 7.1

Now I'm trying to be self-taught in simulation.

I created simple EPC model:

<start event>

[function1]

<funtion1 end event>

[function 2]

<end event>

f1 and f2 are carrying out by the same (occurence) Position1, which employee number is 1.

I set duration of simulation as 1 hour, and processing time for function1 and function2 as 10 minutes.

When I press "start", simulation perfrorms well and I get "f1" and "f2" processed 3 times, "end event" activates 3 times, and it seems like correct, but "start event" activates 5 times. And it is the question #1 - why 5, not 3.

Then, I change processing time and set as 5 minutes. What I get this time after run:

f1 processed 4 times

f2 processed 4 times

start event activated 5 times

end event activated 4 times

Additionally, I see, that my human resource - Position1, became degree of utilization as 0,7

So, I study empirically, that if I set processing time less than 8 minutes, degree of utilization became less 1 and not all of possible function processing executed.

Does anybody know, how to overcome this limit with duration of 8 minutes, and is it real limit or I did something wrong?

Thank you!

Alexey

as regards the first question and the result of 5 activations at the start event, this sounds correct to me. The 'extra' are effectively the next tokens for F1 and F2 that have just 'begun'.

The second question sounds to me that you may be restricting the entry of tokens, the arrival frequency might still be set to support the first example.

I work at Lanner and we supply the simulation component for ARIS Business Simulator,

great to see you using the product

Which tokens are you talking about?

You mean hardware license key?

Alexey

sorry for confusing you, I eman the process instances (entities or tokens) arriving into the process....nothing to do with license keys

I solved my problem: I set frequency of start event as 500 (10 times more than enough for this process), add XOR between start event and F1 and connected "end event" to XOR.

I tested it step by step and found that all works correct.
