Hello,
I'm working with ARIS 7.0.2 Business Publisher + IT Inventory.
I have a question regarding a pre-condition needed for IT Inventory to work: the web export must include two user groups named 'Users' and 'IT Inventory'. Users of IT Inventory must belong to both these groups.
In the documentation I have access to (mainly quick users guides) there are no references to these groups so I'm asking here:
- What are these groups for in the context of IT Inventory?
Thanks in advance.
Hello Kyle,
two years ago we started with ARIS 7.0.2 Business Publisher and IT-Inventory as well, but IMHO the first usable release was 7.1.0 SR2010_05. As many posts referring to Bus Publisher (and IT-Inventory) issues suggest I would strongly recommend to update to the latest release.
At least you can download the latest docs for IT Architect and IT-Inventory which explain some things better than v7.02
Your question was also discussed here
AFAIK the important prerequisite for access to IT-Inventory content exported from your own database is that you have defined a user group for this purpose in your modeling DB (the name "IT Inventory" is not mandatory but conventionally used in the UMG Demo database and the out-of-the-box configuration files of IT-Inventory). All members of this user group will be granted access to IT-Inventory if
1. the user group's name (in English attribute language) or GUID corresponds with the setting in:
%ARISHOME70%\BPServer\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\config\extensions\ext02\security.xml <mapper name="SystemFactSheet_InventoryUsers_Profile" type="profileMapper"> <!-- possible property names are: groupname or groupguid --> <property name="groupname"> EnglishNameofUserGroup </property>
(If you want to use the user group's GUID in Aris 7.02 you need to query it by a report script because it is not displayed in Architect's property dialog)
2. this user group in your modeling DB has access privileges to the group path containing all IT systems to be managed by
ARIS IT Inventory
3. this group path is specified in:
%ARISHOME70%\BPServer\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\config\extensions\ext02\mappings.xml <constant name="itSystemDirectory" value="Main Group/Models/IT-Systems/whatever" />
Again the value has to be the groups' names in English attribute language.
Hope this helps, Martin
Thank you for such a detailed answer.
The technical part you correctly described is already implemented. I do have another user group called "Users" that would like to understand. No reference was found to this group in the manuals.
I was told by our local IDS support guy that both groups were required for IT Inventory to work. However, after your answer, I will perform further testing in order to understand if the group is really needed or not.
It makes sense that only "IT Inventory" group is needed for IT Inventory!
Thanks again
