We use SAP Business Objects. I wonder what model types and object types that are useful for modelling our Business Intelligence Architecture? Are there such objects in the default ARIS Method or do we have to purchase the BI modeller?
Kind regards
/Peter
Hey Peter,
I've used, MER diagrams and Table Diagrams to do so.
I've used objects : Tables ; fields ; Classes ; MER Attributs, and added some new symbols to distinguish datawarehouse tables and fields from others.
With a custom script, I've imported and draw automatically datawarehouse structure in ARIS (every table and fields), i've done the same with ERP structure.
Then I've used Access Diagram to modelize transformations done on ERP datas before loading them into DWH.
Afterwards IT people design BI Report specifications in ARIS, we are able to generate a document with relevant information like :
- Which informations are needed buy the buisness on there daily reports (Finance, Stocks, Production,...)
- Which datas from the DWH are used to build those strategic reports
- From which application those datas came from, which transformation have been done to the datas
Those specifications are validated buy the business from the functionnal point of view and buy IT for the technical point of view.
Then we did a second ARIS report to generate BI Report Catalog order buy users :
- Finance reports
- Production reports
- Supply Chain reports
- ...
We have sent the catalog to key users, they can choose reports they need for they daily work.
This work have been done to support a project of BI tool migration .

Pierre,
Thanks for your help. I´ve also found the Access diagram and Table Diagrams and they could be useful for modeling the level of the source system and data source. Im afraid that those model types doesnt support two of my primary needs:
- objects showing the staging area level with data stores wich recieves information from the data source
- objects showing the data warehouse level where the Info cubes uses information from data stores and through queries creates reports.
I have found one model type, called DW structure, that contains some objects that can be used for modeling some parts of the data warehouse level but its not possible to create assignments from those objects to either Table och Access diagrams.
