Hello,

im currently doing a small presentation for an optional class at my university on ARIS.

Im using the General Motors Group that is included to show how a real big company would look like.

Is there any general data available? Im looking for things like the amount of tables or relations, maybe the amount of objects and so on. Would be great to get any input

Thank you in advance.

Dear Andre,

You could open the database statistics of demo database "United Motor Group" via the tab Administration in ARIS Architect. But I am not sure if that really helps. What do want to achieve?

Cheers

Rune

Hello Rune,

thanks, that helped already. I was just looking for some data that i can present. Since we will be doing a small model with ARIS Express as an exercise during the class i wanna make sure people realize how massive the data actually is in a real model from a big company.

To emphasize the importance of a process repository vs. process models as single files, I used to show the occurrences of an object in several models and its relationships to other objects.

Opposed to simply process "painting" tools where you can just draw a line between object A and B, in ARIS you can give that line a meaning (e.g. "Function"---("is executed by")---"Org. unit"). Even multiple relations are possible, some not necessarily visualized in a model by a line but only by placing an object on top of another, or by a clickable link to other models, decomposing an object in greater detail.

The line is more important than the objects it connects, because the line put the objects into a context of a relation to each other. If that is understood your students passed the level from paining process models and entered the BPA arena.

So I suggest to start with this "model" and ask your students what do you see here?

[A]-----[B]

Then explain what I mentioned above about relationships and expand it to the level of process hierarchies and enterprise architecture.

Encourage you students to run the e-learning "What is BPM?". And if they want more, go to http://ariscommunity.com/university/training.

Cheers

Rune

Hi Andre,

just to note: im comparison to big customer databases, the demo database, considering amount of models, object and groups, is almost nothing.

Bye,

Frank

Hi Andre

Some big company have more than 16000 models.

I let you imagine how many objects and links can be contained in so many models.
