This article will be a series of quick tricks, shortcuts, quick fixes to the problems which you encounter during your modeling effort. You can read "Part 2 of Series" here.

1. Create Objects in bulk quantity:

Probably you know how to create hundreds or thousands of object in one short.

This tip is for those who do not know. Suppose you have a list of excel file containing names of applications and you want to import them and create separate object for each application.

Open your excel file and select rows which contains application names

Right click on the folder/group where you want to store objects,

  • select create objects,
  • select object type,
  • select default symbol (this is very important because even if you have same object type but different symbol then certain relationship will be filtered out, this will be explained more in next articles).

Make sure to remove the blank line as shown in the picture

Now this is the hard part (if and else in case object definition already exists)

CASE#1: You are fortunate enough that no object definition exists/matches with the new objects then ARIS will not cry and you will see the new objects in the folder.

CASE#2: Object definition already exists then ARIS Business Architect will give you some choice

  1. Yes: This option will annoy you every time ARIS found out that there is already an object definition exists.
  2. Yes to All: Duplicate object definitions will be created for every object already exists
  3. No: It will not create the duplicate object and continue to create next object definition in the list and annoy you again and again when it found out another duplication
  4. Cancel: this will cancel the object creation upto the point where ARIS has read the list.
  • No to All: Unfortunately this does not exist, and it might be useful ,for instance, you want to create unique object definition for all object definition and you are trying to communicate this to ARIS but it will not listen as there is no option like this.

 2. Create Objects and relationship in bulk quantity:
