Just some minutes ago, we uploaded a new version of ARIS Express beta. This version does not really have any new features nor does it provide any bugfixes for the things you have reported. So why did we publish this update at all?

We want to test the builtin update mechanism of ARIS Express. But how do you update ARIS Express? Here are the detailed instructions:

  1. Start ARIS Express

That's it. Yes, it is that easy. Each time you start ARIS Express, it tries to connect to ARIS Community to check if new updates are available. If an update is available it will download and install it while you are working with ARIS Express. Next time you start ARIS Express, you will be using the new version. Depending on your Java version, it might happen that on ARIS Express startup you have to confirm downloading the update.

Downloading the update will take some time depending on the speed of your Internet connection. It is a save bet to run ARIS Express for 10 minutes and restart it afterwards to get the update.

To check if you got the new version, open the about dialog from the main menu: Help > About. The build number of the just released version is: 7.1.0.398168. See the screenshot at the end to know where to look at.

We hope that updating ARIS Express was easy for everyone. Maybe you did not even notice that an update was downloaded and installed. Anyway, if you experienced any problems, please make sure to report them!

Worked for me too. No problem. It would be nice to have a message saying update is happening.

Hi,

great to hear that it worked for both of you. So far we received no negative feedback, so seems everything is going smoothly.

@Richard: I think providing such a message would not add any value to the tool. In the end, you just want to use it, but do not care about it being updated. At least that is our view on the topic. Updates are running in background not influecing your current work. Also, we will only answer support questions within ARIS Community concerning the most current version of ARIS Express, so I think it is good that people are automatically updated.

Regards,

Sebastian

Nice, but new feature should have own disable switch. What parameter should I add to command line or ISS configuration file to disable automatic check?

Ron
