I want to export a model from ARIS. But when I try I get only export to XML format. Is there a way to export a model in other formats like Visio, BPMN, BPMN2 etc.
I know we have a capability for import models of these formats into ARIS, but can we export models to these formats too.
Thanks and regards,
Suresh.
Hello Suresh,
for BPMN 2.0 models the im-/export from/to .bpmn is supported. Also the export of the model graphic to jpeg, PNG and EMF is supported. An export to Visio does not really make sense. Viewer licenses for consumption of the content via the portal are cheap and what you see is always up-to-date, while Visio graphics get outdated as soon as they are created (or pretty soon) and they lack all the content linked to the objects in their attributes.
That XML format is intended for the transfer of modelling content between different ARIS databases that possibly exist on different servers or tenants (e. g. transfer from a production to a test tenant). Customers who want to build applications that interpret that XML format need an "Access" license extension for the user performing the export in order to obtain the plain text XML. Otherwise the XML file is encrypted and hence unreadable.
The import functionality for Visio may be useful, if you have tons of Visio content in a quality comparable to what you intend to model in ARIS and you want to migrate that content to ARIS in a one-time effort. You would not want to do that regularly. That does not make sense either.
There is also the feature of XMI import and export for UML content in the UML Designer (separate license). This way you can exchange XMI content with any 3rd party UML tools.
