Hello,

a few weeks ago I installed ARIS Express, but now I don't need it anymore and tried to uninstall it via the Windows Control Panel (the way it is described in the FAQ). I have Windows 7 64 bit. Installing and running ARIS Express worked fine, but when I click on "Remove", I get the following error message (since I have the German version of Windows, I translated the German error message, so it might be slightly different in the English Windows version):

"An error occurred while trying to uninstall ARIS Express 2.3. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove ARIS Express 2.3 from the Programs and Features list?"

Originally I installed ARIS Express 2.2, and trying to resolve the problem, I first re-installed this version and now updated to version 2.3, hoping that after that I could finally uninstall it, but the problem persists.

Does anyone have an idea how to tell windows which uninstallation routine to call? Or can I call it myself directly? In the worst case, I would have to delete the program folder and all registry keys associated with ARIS Express manually. Can anyone give me a list of all these keys?

Of course, I would prefer an automatic uninstallation. I like to have a clean system. ;)

Thanks in advance!

J.R.

Hi,

I hope you do not need it anymore because you've got an installation of our tools for professional usage ;-)

Nevertheless, the "stronger" way is to remove it via the java control panel:

  1. open the system panel
  2. first page, lower section: "temporary internet files": select "settings"
  3. choose "delete files" and confirm the question whith both options checked

Bye,

Frank

Hi Frank,

thank you, your solution worked perfectly. Maybe it could be included in the FAQ? On the other hand, I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem, so it might be very uncommon, though I have no idea what is so special about my system that prevents the "normal" uninstallation routine from working.

Anyway, thanks again for the really quick answer and the great support!

Bye,

J.R.

Hi,

I've experienced the exact same problem in that I have two versions now in my Installed programs menu - 2.2 & 2.3. I cant get rid of the 2.2!

However, I have been experiencing far more serious issues with my 2.3 release:

1-Evertime I shut down my notebook Aris uninstalls.

2-I have had a few crashes i.e. during the middle of process modelling the application shuts down and I loose all data from the last time I saved the model.

3-Currently, none of my models want to load.

Things are going from bad to worse! Is the full version just as unstable? If it is I need to rethink purchasing it.

Hi Damian,

the distribution mechanisms which we are using to ship Express are currently based on Java Webstart, whereas our full version are shipped as ordinary desktop application. Therefore, all the issues you mentioned are not happening in the full version.

We do know that these issues you mentioned can happen and they are adresses at Oracle (whereas I fear that these topics are no highly priorized there...).

We are reconsidering to change the delivering mechanisms for Express due to the facts that Webstart is not that stable as we hoped.

But, honestly, we never detected the behavior that _none_ of the models can be loaded anymore. This is completely new, and we have many tens of thousands users.

So, some hints:

1.) do not copy or move the desktop icons into other folders

2.) do NOT use software cleaning your profile or configure it correctly. Express is stored in the Java Web Cache. Some applications clean them after shutdown -> so Express is removed

3.) use the Java console, reachable via the system panel to remove Express. Deleting the webstart cache files should remove Express.

4.) You could check your options in the java console: on the first page, settings temporary internet settings, please make sure that the option "leave files on computer" is switched on.

I think your installation is completely broken (no login wizard should appear if you try to open a model). To remove Express completely, I recommend to proceed as described above.

Bye,

Frank

I've tried the steps described above yet the Aris Express program still shows up in my Start Menu and my Add/Remove programs box.  When I try to uninstall it from the Java Control Panel it doesn't do anything and when I try to uninstall it from the Add/Remove Programs box it gives me an error message saying "unable to completely uninstall application".  Please explain how I remove your program.

Hi Nonya,

did you try to delete the webstart cache completely or did you just choose the list of webstart applications and choose Express only to remove it?

Frank

I couldn't uninstall this application. I tried the "java console' and delete temp files. It didn't do anything.

I need to remove this application. You guys need to fix this bug. I'm evaluating this software but this doesn't look good.I cannot recommend buggy software to anyone.

Hi Larry,

if you installed the windows setup, the webstart cache does not have any effect. Could you have a look at the "programs list" in the system panel.

If this is the case: this is not a bug. It is a user error.

If you installed express via webstart, and cleaning the webstart cache does not help: it is an JRE error, because we rely on the webstart mechanism, which is not in out hands.

Bye,

Frank
