I’d like to know more about whether other organisations have chosen to use the new ARIS 9 symbols on upgrade and why. I understand that there are various pros and cons but I'm keen to know why other users have either decided to adopt them or stick with the old ones. What did you do?
Hi Mandy, we have just migrated from ARIS 7.2 to ARIS 9.8. We decided to use the new symbols to have a more modern look, but ended up with a lot of remodelling. The problem is that the new symbols have less space for your text so you have to run a script that resizes all of your models. After that the problem is that some objects overlap each other and in other cases the assignment link has gotten out of reach. So than we decided to use an auto rearrange but things get even worse.
My advice would be to stick to the old symbols.
Thank you for coming back to me Bram, you're the only one! I'm interested that you say that the new symbols have less space for your text - I took some examples of long function and event names and put them in the new symbols, and found I had MORE room - I could see all the name in ARIS 9 but I can't in the ARIS 7 symbols. Could I see what you mean? I've attached the examples I did for you to see.
Hi Mandy, you are right: the problems is not the space that's available for your text in the new symbols, but the size of the symbols itself. If I compare the same model in 7.2 and 9.8, the new symbols use more space. You can see it in the attachment.
That was the reason we had to use a script to rearrange the models because otherwise the symbols would be too close to each other.
I'm working for Achmea, an insurance company in the Netherlands. We have about 100 people modeling processes in ARIS.
Thank you Bram. Yes I have heard the same issues from other companies, although Centrica have said there is an out of the box macro which can be run to resize all models specifically for this reason. I guess it's too late for you guys now, but thought I'd mention it in case it helps in any way. Thank you again.
