Hi, everyone!

I'm trying to create a new smart design, but a I have the following problem: I picked two object types (Event and Rule) in the first column and Function to the second column, after that I allow every possible connection between them and save the design. So, when I use the smart design, that I created, there are no connection between Event and Rule, but only between Event and Function.

Thanks in advance!

Business rules contain information that decide which events will follow. Since you need a function (either a human or system) that decides, you cannot create the connection between a rule and an event - the events are the results / only statuses that cannot decide.

This is the similar why you cannot add roles to systems - the system supports a function and a role carries it out ... the function is the important part of this process step.

Roland,

The question is a valid one. Smart Design should allow all method connections. It should work in a similar manner as Process Generator when used for generating EPC: you have a column with 5 allowed objects in the control flow: event, function and the three rule types and a way to show predecessors.

Ivo

Ivo,

I don't disagree with your statement that smart design should be usable for all things that are allowed by the method. In the current state (at least where I saw it) you have to connect the Rules object to a Function and not directly to the Event object, hence the connection is not allowed (I  have to check this tomorrow when I am back to my ARIS laptop).

Hi Guys

I suspect the logic of why you can't connect a rule is that Smart Design is really useful for connecting non-structural objects (org Unit, systems etc) to the Function and creating simple Function-Event Flows. Once you start to create more complex flows with Rules, branches and loops it is much easier to model in the normal way. As you know from the Process Generator it can get quite complicated to follow the flow in the table and why would you bother when you can just look at model and edit it graphically.
