Has anyone used model type 'project schedule'? How is it used to capture the programme, projects, milestones and quality gate?

Deepa,

I've used it several times. There is no Ganttcart functionality if that is what you expect. So you can't do dependencies, lags etc. But it has other advantages as it uses the attribute based modeling capability and so you are able to generate different views by changing attribute types used for positioning and dimension. This way you can use not only tasks (=tasks, projects, programs) and milestones but also application system type, products, goals, capabilities, KPIs, risks and many other object types so it could be really a powerful tool for integrated time based views.

It could even be used for a simple landscape planning in case you don't have IT Architect license where you can use the Process Support Map (really powerful tool for that). By changing time attributes used for position of your applications (you can use phase-in start and end, phase out and many other attributes), you can generate different schedule views. You can even make what-if analysis.

Now to your second question, you just double-click on third column of the matrix, the one with the missing title, and there you go to attribute-based modeling to configure position, dimension and time scale. Then you go back and start modeling in most of the cases by putting occurrences  of different library objects and creating and linking tasks, milestone and quality gates as appropriate. There is a good explanation  in Help.

Project schedule is something that represent objects at physical level so you might not find some objects used at higher levels. Well, that could be annoying some time. For example, System Type is there (in SOA Architect for sure but I think in It as well) with several symbols. However, Business Service symbol is not allowed and that is what I'd like to use. I suppose it's missing based on the above tenet. Well I could question the grounds of the exclusion. Of course I have a workaround but it's frustrating anyway.
