I have two EPCs at the same level ( Level 4) . There is an interface in the first one to link it to the second one. To create End - to- End view, I used 'generate model' and added the two EPCs in that and generated the model. The End- to End model is generated but has assignments on two fucntions. And these assignements open the same ( EPC1 ) and the other (EPC2) again.
Any idea what is going wrong or what is the correct way to generate End -to-end model.
Thanks,
Deepa
Dear Deepa,
When you use Generate model started on the context menu of 2 or more EPC models, in ARIS Business Designer or Architect, of course the models need to be connected properly beforehand in order to get the expected result: 1 EPC with a continous end-to-end process flow.
Check out the following 3 examples for generating an end-to-end model from 2 EPCs and verify your case if there was something missing:
1. Two identical events connect 2 EPC models (via occurence copy):
2. A process interface connects 2 EPCs (via model assignment):
3. A process interface AND an identical event connect 2 EPCs (via model assignment AND occurentce copy):
Of course, only the 3rd example is the 100% compliant with the ARIS methodology of using process interfaces the correct way (review the dispute that post).
Please note that in the 3rd example the process interfaces are handy for navigating quickly forward and backward in the end-to-end process flow without the need to leave this low (EPC) level in the process hierarchy compared to navigate between the different EPCs only from the value-added chain models one level higher.
Does this help you?
Cheers

Thanks Rune. I think mine is the third one. I tried doing it as an example and it does generate correctly but in the actual E2E process generation, in the final E2E model,( say taking your proecss as an example) Function EPC1.F1 shows and assignment to EPC1 and Function EPC2.F1 shows an assignment to EPC2. Ignoring those assignments the E2E process looks OK. But I don't understand why it is attaching those processes again. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Deepa
I can't explain such a result.
Have you tried to rebuild my example from scratch?
Or was there maybe an assignment already set from your former tests?
The dialog Generate model has 3 options you can select to influence the result. Did you change any of the default settings?
And which ARIS version are you using? I am on v7.1 Service Release 6.
Cheers
