Is it possible to create any random new connection types between 2 objects in a model type ? I want to create a connection type from Org unit object to KPI instance object in KPI Map model type. But when i checked the KPI Map model type under Method dropdown in Configuration settings there is no predefined connection type from Org unit object to KPI instance.

Can anyone please provide me some insights on this. I am using ARIS Architect.

Hi,

you posted in ARIS Express, which is not the right forum, if you have questions on the commercial product. "Professional ARIS" would find a better audience for your question.

Technically you can customize almost anything in the ARIS method. I start with the exceptions to this rule:

  1. You cannot create new object types
  2. You cannot create new connection types

But you can configure your method to use any existing connection type in any model you want to connect virtually any symbols you want. You can even create new model types from scratch and define the method for them.

Best practice is: Manage your method using a meta model in which you decide on the concepts in scope of your modelling and how to model them (considering the stakeholders' responsibilities). From your question I gather you are in the process of doing just that at the moment. Software AG Global Consulting Services also offers consultancy in performing method workshops and facilitating method development efforts. We have a lot of experience with that.

General rule of thumb: Change as little as necessary, but change everything that is necessary to meet your stakeholders' needs. The tricky bit is deciding, what is "necessary".

Following that rule and to answer your question technically, the first attempt is to try to configure your method filter and find and activate a suitable connection type in the KPI map model type. If there is none available that suits you, go to the Method configuration and add a suitable connection to the KPI map model type. After that you can add it to the method filter.

You need the function privilege "Configuration administrator" on your tenant in order to modify the method and filters using ARIS Architect.
