My Aris Express install has lost all of it's file associations.  As you can see above, it now just displays the Java Webstart Icon.  I can no longer open the files by clicking on them.  I have a huge number of models at this point so this is very annoying.

I have reloaded Java and Aris Express, but neither re-install changed this.

I have a few colleagues that have the same issue.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

For most apps, you can associate the application in the file explorer, but Aris Express does not show up on the list and there is no exe in Program Files.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Ken.

Did you update the JRE? We noticed, that some JRE versions, on the update, change the file in the Java application cache?

Please try the following:

1.) open the Java control panel (via the system panel)

2.) on the first page, click "show" in the temporary internet files area

3.) In the list of the application, execute a context menu on ARIS Express

4.) if "create assignment" is executable, please choose that menu entry.

If that does not work, only removing Express and downloading it again works. Unfortunately, we do not have any influence on that issue, so we are annoyed also...

BTW: if you've got the possibility to update the JRE version to the newest one - 1.6.0_18 -, it is a good idea to do so! Sun (or Oracle ;-) changed the download mechanism, so you are able to download Express in less than one minute!

Bye,

Frank

We'll I am certain I am on the lastest version. I uninstalled everything and then re-installed.  I think I got to the panel you were talking about, but I don't see any way to associate file types.

I think what you meant is that I would have seen an associate listing here if it was available.

As I have already uninstalled and reinstalled everything, what should I do?  Last time I deleted Aris and then uninstalled Java and then reinstalled Java then Aris Express.  Not hopeful that if I do that exact same thing again that something different will happen.

Any other ideas?

Ken

Hi Ken,

no, in the Java Cache viewer, if you make a right click on "ARIS Express 1.0", there is a menu entry in the context menu about the file type association.

If you uninstall Express, it is a better way to delete the complete Java Cache via the Java Pane. Maybe you deleted the files by hand?

Bye,

Frank

Hello Ken

I don't want to substitute to support, but If you're still in trouble, give a try to Java 1.6.0 update 14 and make sure you don't pile up many Java runtime. It's easy to get confused with the Java RTE.  Also verify that Java keeps temporary files on your computer and that the space is large enough.  Good luck.  Bgrds,
