Number# 11: ARIS cannot play my media file and I cannot run it on blackberry, blueberry, ipod, ipad ( Is that what ARIS suppose to do!!!!)……
We could only wish for a module like entertainment shown below:
Pretty sure, soon ARIS development team will receive request such as the following:
ARIS should be able
- Play my media
- Get feeds from twitter, myspace
- Solve the global warming, pollution problem
- Run on my Iphone, blackberry ( I am sure someone is onto it though)
This all happens because nobody knows how many ARIS Products are available in the market, what each product do and what are the differences !!!!

I am sure all of you have watched famous Matrix Movie(for those who have not watched it, move to #12) and I would like you to recall one particular scene of Matrix Movie (Neo faces off with Matrix Architect). Imagine Neo as our hapless ARIS user and he has a chance to meet with the source (ARIS).

ARIS the Architect: Almost none. The Gartner Magic Quadrant for BPM Modeling tool has not changed since the older days and I have word from Oracle that one of our competitor is bought by big fish.
Number# 12: Cannot arrange icons on symbol palette
On more serious note, there is no possibility to arrange symbols on symbol palette alphabetically.
Number# 13: ARIS Licensing Issue…. Get Money – Money - Money and more Money
Two companies using ARIS Business Server will have two different versions b/c of licensing issue. They will charge customer on per model type or even to the extent of per connection type basis.
For one client they will enable certain set of connection type and for the other client they will disable the connection types. This was happened in our case. We were using connection type generalizes and next morning we were not be able to use the connection and pre-existing connection become uneditable.
Some ARIS Consultants say the above problem is :
- Filter problem or
- License key problem or
- Version problem or
- May be a new ARIS Feature .....
What ever it is; bottom line; we use the some specific relationship and after some time ARIS does not support it.
Number# 14: Limitation in Template Functionality
You cannot insert graphics / symbols / text in template. Some tools allow you to provide this functionality and you can standardize look and feel of your model based upon corporate modeling standards.
In other modeling tool; I am not disclosing the name:
I have to customize heavily and write custom script to do the job to automatically apply our corporate template on each model.
Number# 15: Consistency of ARIS in being Inconsistent
Pretty sure you have come across several inconsistency, in ARIS documentation. Most of them are not updated by the way.
To prove/substantiate my point, check out the ARIS Script API. They are not following any standard naming for method name some time getX() will provide you x coordinate, or sometime X() will do the job. Similary in code development it’s standard to follow java bean naming convention but you will find:
SetPageWidth (it should be) setPageWidth() (as per bean naming)
SetPageHeight (it should be) setPageHeight() (as per bean naming)
For this particular method <getLocadeId()> I have to spend quite some time in figuring out the syntax problem as I was using getLocaleID() which is close to intuition.

# 12 - Symbols can be arranged in the Method Filter on the last step. I use this frequently, however, it would be better to have it as a user option which the Administrator can enable/disable. An option to alphabetize them or arrange by underlying object type would be nice to have.

#11: sure, mobile usage, global warming and the oil spill at the Gulf of Mexico are important topics for us, too :-). While saving the world in silence, we will include embedded videos in the feature voting which we are currently preparing for the ARIS Community. Let's see, how other customers like the idea.
BTW: You can link files like videos or audio files to models or objects by using the Link attribute. And you can start the link by pressing F7 for "Run".

#11: I like the way you put the audio files under Knowledge Category.
#12: So ARIS expect us to arrange symbols by using <Up><Down> button!!!. That's too much work to do....some users have no access to filters (designers/modelers). What you be the work around for them? Instead of all this hassle, why users are not allowed to arrange "Symbol Palettes" and this info could be saved in users configuration file.
#14: We are using ARIS 7.1.0.3xxx so currently cannot see "Fragments". We are planning to upgrade ARIS platform to latest available to-date.

#12: No doubt, it would be easier to move the symbols by drag&drop and by allowing this in the Designer module as well. I suppose, you would want to apply the order of the filter conventions first and then overwrite this by individual user settings. I'll check with my colleagues, if we can do this in addition to the existing solution.
#13: You are right, "Fragments" have been introduced in ARIS 7.1 SR 5. I hope, you will like some of the other enhancements there, too.

We are migrating from 7.0 to 7.1 and found new featuew in ARIS BA/BD 7.1 which doesn't allow us to do modeling the way we users did in previous version.
In 7.0 if you need to connect several objects you click on icon Comnnections and from that point systems understands that I am doing object linkage and I can continiously link them.
In 7.1 I have to click on Connections icon evey time I want to connet objects. It is a little bit annoying.
Is it a new feature of 7.1 or there is some configuration item which controls such behavior of the software. The F6 (Toggle connection) works, but we would like to configure ARIS BA/BD to have it ON by default.
